What is Averaging Down Calculator?
Averaging Down Calculator is a friendly, fast tool for investors and traders who want to calculate their new average cost per share after buying more of a stock or cryptocurrency at a lower price.
Whether you're dollar-cost averaging into Bitcoin or adding to a stock position during a dip, this calculator gives you the numbers you need instantly — no spreadsheet required.
How It Works
The Formula
Averaging down works by combining the total cost of all your purchases and dividing by the total number of shares or coins you own.
// Total Cost
Total Cost = (Shares₁ × Price₁) + (Shares₂ × Price₂)
// New Average Price
Avg Price = Total Cost ÷ Total Shares
Total Cost = (Shares₁ × Price₁) + (Shares₂ × Price₂)
// New Average Price
Avg Price = Total Cost ÷ Total Shares
Here's a quick example:
Purchase 1
10 shares @ $50.00
Purchase 2
10 shares @ $30.00
Total Invested
$800.00
Total Shares
20 shares
New Average Price
$40.00 per share
